What is ATB?

Bridging the
Digital Divide

The African Tech Bridge (ATB) is AHSS's initiative to collect used laptops, tablets, and tech equipment from Maryland and ship them directly to schools and learning centers in Nigeria.

In 2026, digital literacy is just as critical as reading literacy. A child without a book is disadvantaged. A child without access to technology is locked out of the modern economy entirely. ATB exists to change that.

Using the same KTG Shipping partnership that powers the African Literacy Initiative, we already have the logistics pipeline built. Now we're filling it with technology.

Why It Matters

The Case for Tech

📊

The Gap is Real

Only 33% of sub-Saharan Africa has internet access. In rural Nigeria, that number drops significantly lower.

💼

Jobs Require Tech

The fastest-growing careers in Africa — fintech, agriculture tech, healthcare tech — all require digital skills learned early.

🏫

Schools Need Tools

Many Nigerian schools have zero computers. A single donated laptop shared among students changes the entire classroom.

♻️

We Have the Supply

American students, families, and businesses upgrade devices constantly. Those devices don't need to end up in landfills.

How It Works

Collect. Refurbish. Ship.

01

Collect Devices

We accept donated laptops, tablets, and accessories from students, families, teachers, and local businesses at Wootton and partner schools.

02

Wipe, Refurbish & Store

All devices are factory reset, cleaned, and verified to be in working order before storing with our partner, Prime Montessori Academy until we reach our goal of 100 . No data, no viruses, ready to use.

03

Package & Ship

KTG Shipping International handles packaging and international transport directly to Nigeria — the same trusted partner powering the ALI book drive.

04

Distribute

Devices go to verified schools and learning centers in Nigeria, with documentation and photos shared on the AHSS website.

What We Accept

We accept any working device. If it can be reset and used by a student in Nigeria, we want it. Drop-offs are accepted at Wootton High School through the AHSS collection point.

  • Laptops (Windows, Mac, Chromebook)
  • Tablets (iPad, Android, Amazon Fire)
  • Chargers and power adapters
  • Computer mice and keyboards
  • USB drives and storage devices
  • Working smartphones (unlocked preferred)
  • Headphones and earbuds

Note: Devices must power on. Cracked screens are okay if the device functions. We cannot accept broken items. Brand-new devices are also welcomed.
