The African Heritage Scholarship Society (AHSS) is a student organization dedicated to celebrating African and African-diaspora heritage while fostering a community of high-achieving scholars.

We believe that cultural pride and academic excellence go hand in hand. Through scholarship opportunities, cultural programming, mentorship, and community engagement, AHSS empowers students to embrace their roots and reach their highest potential.

Join AHSS

Who Can Apply?

Membership is open to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time student
  • Of African heritage or descent (including the African diaspora), or demonstrate a strong commitment to African culture, history, and community. Non-African allies who wish to support our mission are welcome as Associate Members
  • In good academic standing at your institution, Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Willing to participate actively in AHSS events, programs, and community initiatives
  • Committed to the values of heritage, leadership, and service, represent AHSS with integrity, excellence, and respect — on and off campus.
  • Passionate about celebrating and uplifting the African community
